still more cards made with new Cuttlebug folders

I found some time to play with a few more of these new Cuttlebug embossing folders.

This card was made using the Harlequin folder. This is one of the folders that is only sold as part of the complete bundle of new folders, at least for right now. The stamped images and sentiment are by Hero Arts. The scores were made using the Scor-It. The doodling was mine.

I used the Diamond Plate folder on some polished stone for this card. The image of the boy and the 'dream' sentiment are from Cornish Heritage Farms. Again, the scoring was made using my Scor-It.

For this last card I essentially used the double Cuttle technique that I've described here before. I first embossed with the Herringbone folder then with the Flourished Frame folder. I stamped the images by Basic Grey using Memento dye inks, cut them out, and then popped them off the front of the card. The embellishments are Kaisercraft colored pearls.

I think that brings my total to 10 of the 11 new folders used on cards in the last three or so days. Just like with the last release, it's fun to have new designs to play with. A few things to note though:
  • I already mentioned that Moroccan Screen debosses if placed in the folder as you normally would. It's easy enough to flip over, but if you're planning to emboss decorated card stock or a card front, it's something to keep in mind.
  • These folders still do not emboss an A2 size card front from edge to edge. They still leave a bit of an unembossed border around the edges. That has not changed.
  • For a number of these new folders, ProvoCraft has gone back to doing something that was kind of bothersome in the past. They start the embossed design very close to the folded edge of the embossing folder. That means that when you place a card front or piece of card stock inside the folder, you're limited as to where you can place it. Sometimes I wonder if the folks who come up with the designs ever actually use the folders. Yes, the embossing is very crisp and clean and the designs are lovely, but if I put a piece of A2 size card stock in the folder and roll it through my machine, the design will start very near the top edge and leave a large unembossed border at the bottom. That's a shortsighted way of making these. To be most useful, the design should have been cheated toward the open edge of the folder, if anything. That would leave a lot more options as far as placing the design on a card front or piece of card stock. I was disappointed to see that.
All in all though, these Cuttlebug embossing folders are still a lot of fun. I've used them alone and a few in combination. One of these days I'll have to pull out some of the older folders and try more techniques since there are now even more possibilities as far as combinations. And maybe I'll come up with a good way to use the Journal Card folder that I haven't used yet. :-)

holiday cards Cuttlebug-style

I wanted to share a few more cards that I made using the Cuttlebug A2 embossing folders and the border folders. They were made in the winter holiday spirit. :-)

This first card was very simply embossed using one of the border folders on the top and bottom edges of the card. The bird image is by Inkadinkado and stamped using Memento dye inks. The sentiment is by My Favorite Things. The faux snow is by Cornish Heritage Farms.

This card was made by using diagonal Cuttling with the Snowflakes embossing folder. I used another border folder to accent the space for the sentiment by Inkadinkado. The corner were punched using a Fiskars corner punch.

I partially Cuttled the front of this card using the Christmas ornaments embossing folder. The score lines were made using the Scor-It, and again I used a border folder to add interest to that bottom edge of the design. The stamped image is by Stampendous, stamped with Memento dye ink and colored with Copic Spica glitter pens.

This last card was partially embossed using the Snow Dots embossing folder. I used an embossing border folder to set off the sentiment by Martha Stewart. The snowflakes were made via a punch also by Martha Stewart. The inky accents on the snowflakes and the stamping were made using Memento dye inks.

These are just some quick and easy cards that showcase the some of the fun looks that you can get by using embossing folders in different ways and in different combinations.

playing at cards with playing cards

Oh, that dollar spot in Target can certainly have fun stuff for altering and crafting! Recently I found some small shaped playing cards with wintry themes. Here are a couple of cards that I made using a couple of the playing cards from the deck that I bought.

The deck that I picked up had a snowman image on it. I embossed it with the Cuttlebug Snow Dots folder, then mounted that on a white cardstock layer embossed using the C'bug Snowflakes folder, then I attached that to a red shimmer-finish paper that I offset Cuttled using the Diamonds in the Rough folder. I used a Tonic ticket punch to cut the corners. The sentiment is a Snag 'Em stamp by Imaginisce. I embellished with Ranger's Liquid Pearls.

I used another playing card to create this card. This time I embossed it with the Diamonds in the Rough and mounted it on glittery DCWV cardstock that I'd cut and embossed in one pass using one of the curved rectangle Mega-Nestabilities dies by Spellbinders. The patterned cardstock is also by Die Cuts with a View. I stamped the sentiment using Archival black ink, and oh, how appropriate that sentiment has been these last couple of days, by the way! Finally I added the faux snow from Cornish Heritage Farms.

Hope everyone is staying warm!

inspired by the cold

It isn't cold here today. Actually, it's mild and a perfect day to be out raking leaves. I did that earlier. But a couple of days ago it was cold here, and the cold had me thinking about wintry things, like penguins, ice, snow, holidays....

So, here's a card that I made along those lines.

The stamped images are all by Hero Arts and stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I colored the penguin with a white Inkssentials pen and the scarf with a Spica glitter pen. The blue layer is a shimmer-finish paper (from Target) that I embossed using the Snow Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder and the creative Cuttling technique.

This is a close up view. I think you might just be able to appreciate the glitter of the paper. You also get a good look at the faux snow, or ice. :-) Kinda looks more like ice here. I'd bought it a while back from Cornish Heritage Farms. The patterned cardstock is by Me and My Big Ideas.

can't resist Perfect Resist

Okay. Before I got sidetracked yesterday playing with faux jewels, I'd been experimenting with Perfect Resist from Stampinback. Here are a couple more cards using Perfect Resist.

The cup image is by Inkadinkado. The sentiment is by Impression Obsession. I love that sentiment! The coffee bean die cuts are Sizzix.

This is another one of those granite look backgrounds. The bird image by Inque Boutique was stamped with Perfect Resist. The sentiment is by Cornish Heritage Farms. The tag die cut is by Sizzix.

the flocking to flock

Flock has been around for a while, but it seems to be making a comeback. It's fun stuff. When I've used it in the past, it's mainly been for my winter cards, using white for snow. I've expanded into using some other colors now.

For this card I used yellow flock for the duck and colored the rest with markers. I used the art deco
Fiskars corner edger to embellish the layers, as well as Robin's Nest dew drops.

Here's a closer view of the flock. I need to practice a bit, getting that glue into tighter spaces can be tough. At the same time, it's also easy to go outside the lines. Can't win! LOL!

I used both black and white flock on the skunk and colored the rest with markers. I used my Sakura Glaze pen on the raindrops. The Cuttlebug Bloom Dots embossing folder embossed my green strip. Memento dye inks turned my Bride's ivory flowers into bright yellow ones.

And here's a closer view of the front of that card. I love that fuzzy look!

The stamps were all by Clear Dollar Stamps and stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The yellow flock is from Stampendous. The black and white are from Cornish Heritage Farms.

Two cards from before the hiatus

I made these two cards a couple of weeks ago, but didn't find the time to photograph them and upload them until today.

This one was made using the Sizzix XL scalloped card die in my Big Shot. The main flower image and the sentiment are both by Cornish Heritage Farms. The background flower images are by Tim Holtz. I used Core'dinations cardstock cut with a Nestabilities scalloped rectangle die and embossed with the Cuttlebug A2 script embossing folder for the main image layer. I also used the Martha Stewart Lace Doily border punch to embellish.

This next card was a lot of fun to make. I'd found a huge package of chipboard on clearance at Joann's not too long ago. I'd never really used chipboard much. I like the look, but I'm not patient enough to paint it and let it dry, and I'm not enthralled by the notion of covering it with patterned paper and having to do all of that cutting and gluing. Well, the layer with my Inque Boutique sentiment is chipboard and so is the star. They were regular old chipboard color, but I inked them up with Adirondack pigment inks and they looked great! Love the way that pigment ink covers! The colors are so vibrant, too. I embellished the stamping with some accents using my Inkssentials opaque white pen and a black Pigma micron pen, and voila! It was an easy card with some fun added dimension. Can't wait to do more. :-)

Trees - Wednesday Stamper

There was no way that I could resist this week's Wednesday Stamper theme, which is trees.

The background of my card is an embossed trees layer made with a Dreamweaver stencil and accented with chalk ink. The stamped image is by Cornish Heritage Farms. I embellished with Robin's Nest dew drops.

Valentine - Wednesday Stamper

It's a celebration of Valentine's Day on Wednesday Stamper. The challenge for this week is to create something Valentine related.

This started out as a full-size card, but I didn't care for the way it turned out. I did like parts of it though, so I took those parts and made an ATC instead. This is a polished stone background stamped with a Cornish Heritage Farm image and embellished with a Fiskars border punch, the Textile texture Cuttlebug embossing folder, and of course, a heart.

Primary Colors Challenge - DCM

The midweek challenge at the daring cardmakers site was to make a card using only primary colo(u)rs. This is my challenge card...

The trellis background stamp is by Sonlight Impressions. The sentiment is by Hero Arts. The flower was a silk flower that I sprayed with Stiffy fabric stiffening spray and put through my Big Shot in the script Cuttlebug folder to emboss it and give it a little texture.

Happiness is....

Happiness is having fun toys to play with. Last week I ordered the Bind It All from Bonnie's Best. She really is the best. I had that machine in my hands two days later! It punches the rectangular holes for the coil and it bends the open coil closed, too. The best part is that it's all effortless. I made a booklet with it this morning. I could have used a smaller size coil, but they're not here yet, so this one looks a little big for the project. I couldn't wait though!

The covers are chipboard covered with Basic Grey's Scarlet's Letter paper. The sentiment is by Cornish Heritage Farms. The embellishments are a green cardstock strip embossed with the Cuttlebug stylized flowers embossing folder and a transparency colored with chalk ink and cut out with a Quickutz tag die that I embossed with a Cuttlebug butterfly embossing folder. The wing accents are Glaze pen.

Oh, this machine opens up a world of possibilities, especially having two girls who often need things created at the last minute! LOL!
