The main image in this card is by Cat Dancing Design, stamped with Versafine Onyx black ink and then colored with markers. I'm not totally comfortable coloring my images with markers, so I'm practicing using them. I feel like I'm gradually getting better at it.The sentiment is a Studio G clear dollar stamp from Michael's. The flowery background is by K&Company. The embossed border was green cardstock run through my Big Shot with a texture plate. I think the narrow floral strip was from the DCWV glitter stack.
I'm playing catch-up on challenges. This is a card that I made for the most recent daring cardmakers challenge,
How Random! The challenge was to list 20 or so crafty items and to randomly choose 3-5 and make a card using ONLY those items, plus base cardstock. My list included: patterned paper... bazzill bling... primas... eyelets... stamps... brads... ink... buttons... fibers... ribbon... chipboard... diecuts... punches... shaped clips... Stickles... gel pens... glitter... transparency... vellum... embossing.
This is what came from the random draw: patterned paper, transparency, embossing, buttons, diecuts. Yikes, no stamping and no ink! Okay. Here's what I came up with.
The patterned papers are from DCWV Glitter Stack. I embossed my transparency using the Cuttlebug bloom dots embossing folder. The sentiment is a QK die cut made from my base cardstock. My one small cheat was using a bit of fiber in my buttonholes, but buttons look so naked without that! This was fun, but I did miss being able to pull out my inks and my stamps, just to add a little something extra. I do like this card though, and I enjoyed the challenge. :-)
I was browsing blogs the other night and came across a link for the daring cardmakers. I can always use inspiration, so I bookmarked them and promised myself I'd check in there to see what their challenges were. The one issued last Friday was the 20/20 Vision challenge, essentially, using 20 of the same object all on one card front. That sounded like fun and they had some great examples, so today I gave it a try. This first card used 20 dragonflies punched out of transparency that I'd colored with alcohol inks. The Asian image is by Sonlight Impressions, the sentiment by Inkastamps, and the background paper is DCWV's Far East.
For this second card, I took the challenge more literally. LOL! I was looking through my supplies to see what I had 20 pieces of, besides flowers. I came across the googly eyes. Then I remembered my Maui cows stamps and was hoping that there were at least ten cows in the image that I was thinking of using. WOO HOO! There were exactly ten of them. So, the main image is by Maui Cows and the sentiment is Cowtown Stamps. I used the bloom dots Cuttlebug embossing folder to add texture to the red cardstock.
Twenty sounds like a lot, but it can be fun to see how quickly things can add up on a cardfront and still not look overpowering.
Organizing is an ongoing process for me. Today I came across a couple of kits from Self-Addressed that I hadn't touched. One of them had a wonderful calendar stamp by Purple Onion Designs in it. I'd also seen an example of a desktop calendar using that stamp that I knew I wanted to try. I had a frame that would work. I just needed to find the time and inspiration.Fast forward to this afternoon. My errands conveniently took me close to an Archiver's. I had to go in. I wanted to see the colors of Bazzill Bling in person. Okay, yeah, I didn't just look. I bought a few colors. The other thing that caught my eye was the DCWV Glitter stack. Uh oh. Good thing I had my coupon with me! I'm glad that I'm not a scrapper because the Once Upon a Time stack was pretty, too. I came home and was leafing through the stack when I realized that there were designs that would be oh so appropriate for seasons. AHA! I pulled out my paper trimmer and my POD stamps and I was ready! Here's how my calendar turned out.
All of the stamps are by Purple Onion Designs. The papers are almost all from the DCWV Glitter stack. The rest are mostly scraps of Bazzill. The frame originally had a matte silver finish (BORING!) that I spruced up with some Ranger alcohol inks. I may accent it with one more darker color. I'm still deciding. I think it may need just a bit more oomph. Overall though, I'm pleased with how it turned out.
